Who do we sell to?
- We’re happy to serve the public, landscapers, and home builders.
Can I lay sod year-round?
- Yes, although in your winter months the sod will more than likely be dormant, it is still safe to lay sod year-round. The roots remain active even when the sod is dormant, it will still root down; they are just at a slower rate during the winter months. Please remember you still need to water new sod during the winter months.
How many Sq. Ft/Yards are on a pallet?
- Each pallet covers 450 sq ft/50 yards and contains 168 pieces. Our Bermuda pallets cover 500 sq ft/55.56 yards and contain 186 pieces per pallet.
Which type of sod is recommended for full sun?
- All of our sod varieties are grown in full sun at the farm, so they’ll do great in sunny areas! Zeon Zoysia and Tif Tuf Bermuda are our most popular choices and are more water-efficient than other options.
Which type of sod is recommended for shade?
- We’d recommend Zoysia or Palmetto St. Augustine sod for shady areas – both work really well in those conditions!
Which type of sod is recommended for heavy traffic?
- We would recommend Celebration Bermuda because of its recovery time.
How often do I need to water my new sod?
- We recommend watering three times a day during the hotter months: morning, noon, and evening, with the morning watering being the most important. Your new sod needs to stay wet but not soaked to help promote healthy root growth.
Should I fertilize my new sod once I get it down?
- We’d suggest holding off on fertilizing your new sod right after installation, since the farm has already taken care of that for you. We recommend waiting at least 2-3 months before adding any additional fertilizer.
How long do I have to lay my new sod?
- We recommend installing your new sod the day you receive it, especially during the hotter months. If you’re unable to lay it that day, please note it may turn yellow. The good news is that even if this happens, the grass will still be alive and the roots will remain active. That said, we encourage you to lay it as soon as possible and water it thoroughly for best results.
How long before I can mow my new sod?
- We recommend waiting at least 2 weeks before mowing your new sod.
How long should you wait to walk on the new sod?
- While you can walk on it right away if you need to, just keep in mind that doing so when the sod is too wet will leave tracks. We’d recommend waiting a couple of weeks before walking on it to give the roots time to become nicely established.
Do you sell pieces or partial pallets of sod?
- We typically don’t sell pieces or partial pallets, but we’d be happy to try to accommodate this during the spring season if other customers are also interested in partial pallets.
Which type of sod does well in this area?
- We’re pleased to share that each type of sod we sell is grown right here in this area or South Texas and thrives beautifully in this climate.
Do you have any sod I can pick up today?
- Here at CTX Sod, we only bring in sod as it’s ordered to keep it as fresh as possible for our customers. We don’t keep any sod in stock at our yard, but we’d be happy to get you on our schedule!
How much does each pallet weigh?
- Just to give you a heads up, our 450 sq ft pallets weigh between 2,200 and 2,500 pounds depending on the moisture content. Our 500 sq ft pallets weigh between 2,500 and 2,800 pounds depending on the moisture content. As long as your truck can handle this weight, you should be good to haul it without a trailer.
How many days in advance do I need to place my order?
- We recommend placing your order 2-3 days in advance. During the spring when sales are higher, we’d suggest scheduling sooner rather than later to ensure we can have it ready for you on the day you need it, as we book up quickly.
Does sod do well in the sandy soil?
- All of our sod will do well in sandy soil. You’ll just need to water more frequently but for shorter durations than you would with coarser soils.
